Kapa Haka
In recognising the unique position of Māori, Maungakaramea Primary School provides instruction in Tikanga Māori (Māori culture) and te reo Māori (Māori language). We have an active Kapa Haka group, which performs at a number of events throughout the year.
Kapa Haka is a fundamental part of our curriculum. Through the participation in Kapa Haka, learners develop their levels of engagement, leadership skills, sustained focus and ability to work collaboratively. Learners develop confidence when attempting new words and learning new aspects of the Māori culture. Kapa haka provides students with a creative, dynamic and powerful way to access their learning potential. Kapa Haka also teaches students spirituality, relationships, the nature of the senses, utility and discipline.
